Between 26 – 27th of April 2013, Continental Automotive Iaşi, subsidiary of Continental Corporation, one of the most important suppliers of components for the automotive industry, organized the seventh edition of the Student Competition. The event is dedicated to all students of the technical profile faculties, who wish to test their knowledge and respond to an interesting technical challenge, which can be their starting point for building a successful career in the field.
In December 2012, Continental proposed to the students of technical faculties from Iaşi, Suceava, Bacău, Galaţi and Chişinău a new thinking topic under the name „ElectroMobility 2”. ". After the review of proposed projects, 27 teamswere accepted, out of which 18 were from the Gh. Asachi Technical University of Iaşi, 4 teams from the Technical University of Moldova from Chișinău, 4 from the Ştefan cel Mare Technical University of Suceava and one team from the Dunărea de Jos University of Galaţi. All participating teams received from the organizer two BLDC motors, but also financial support amounting to 70 EURO for the project development. The testing of the tiny cars on the track took place on Saturday, the 13th of April, at the Continental office on Bld. Poitiers nr. 6, Iași. Here a portion of track was installed, where the contestants had the possibility of testing and tuning their tiny cars.
This years' competition had for the first time ever a Junior Stage section - ElectroMobility Junior – where 10 of the 14 registered contestants were accepted. The challenge consists in offering a technical solution for the creation of an electronic circuit according to the specifications given by the organisers. The practical trial's performance, the testing, the final assessment of the projects and the award ceremony took place on the 27th of April.
The winning team was team no. 31 in the contest - V.A.M.A - Gh. Asachi Technical University of Iași, Faculty of Automatic Control and Computers. Team members: Costea Andrei Alexandru, Pălăsanu Vlad, Mihaila Mihai, Stanciu Alexandru Ioan. Coordinating teacher: Cătălin Brăescu. They also won the special prize consisting of a studies scholarship. "We had a great time participating in this competition. We are very happy because we managed to get here and win the top prize and the studies scholarship. It is an experience that will greatly help us in the future and we hope to also participate in 2014. It was tiring, exciting and we are very glad. We've won!" stated the members of V.A.M.A. team at the award ceremony.
Continental offered prizes of a total amount of 2700 euro: Ist place - 1100 euro, IInd place – 800 euro, IIIrd place - 500 euro as well as two special prizes: one 300 euro one and the second one consists of a Continental studies scholarship, an unequalled advantage in the CV of any candidate. „This event is a gain on both sides: students gain practical experience and teamwork, and Continental discovers talented people, who want to work in the automotive field. Many of my newer colleagues came to know by means of this event the company, and while there is a desire to compete, we will be supporting technical talents” stated Marius Lupu, manager of the Iaşi location at the end of the event.
